Our Impressions
When we planned this mini vacation, we wanted to spend two days hiking, one day kayaking, and one day walking the town. The plan was to do a mini hike the day of arrival (Friday), hike Mount Washington on the second day (Saturday), kayak the following day (Sunday), and walk the town on the last day (Monday). It is not always easy to guess which hike is easy and which is hard as the ratings are not always consistent and representative of the actual terrain. The first day, we ended up finding a relatively short (4.4 mile round-trip) hike, Welch-Dickey Loop Trail Hike, that ended up being quite challenging. Mount Washington was the next day with the weather turning winter-like. Unfortunately, the weather did not improve the following day so kayaking was out of the question. Begrudgingly, we ended up hiking again instead of resting. We did pick a short and not too difficult hike on this “rest day.” There was a bit of climbing and rock scrambling, but the view was absolutely spectacular and worth the effort. I do recommend wearing your hiking boots though, which we did not do as we were resting our swollen feet.
