Luray Caverns

Day 1 of Shenandoah National Park Get-Away

Information About Luray Caverns

Date of trip: 03/18/2021

The Luray Caverns is the largest caverns in the eastern U.S.

Tickets to the Luray Caverns were $32 per adult.  Included in the ticket price is the entrance to the caverns, the Car & Carriage Caravan Museum, Shenandoah Heritage Village, and Toy Junction.

We started by visiting the Car & Carriage Caravan Museum, which displays over 75 historic vehicles, including an 1897 Mercedes-Benz, which is one of the oldest cars in the country still in working condition.

We then stopped by the Toy Town Junction, which is an exhibit of trains and toys.

Next, we visited the Shenandoah Heritage Village, which is a recreation of a 19th century farming community.

Finally, we entered the 141-year old Luray Caverns attraction.

We were awed by the beautiful calcite rock formations, towering stone columns that rise to up to 47 feet high, and natural crystal-clear pools, which produce breathtaking optical illusions.  All these wonders are located in enormous rooms with ceilings that rise to 10 stories high.  The Luray Caverns also contain the Great Stalacpipe Organ, which is the largest musical instrument in the world.
