About Sleeping Beauty Mountain Hike
Sleeping Beauty Mountain is located on the east side of Lake George in the Adirondack Mountains. Its summit provides a gorgeous unobstructed view of Lake George, the surrounding forests, and other Adirondack Mountains, including Crane, Pico, Killington, Gore, and West Mountains.
The area around Sleeping Beauty Mountain, known as Shelving Rock, was owned by the Knapp family. The trails currently used to hike the mountain were carriage roads that belonged to the estate.
Sleeping Beauty was our pick for day 2. The weather turned cold and rainy. Luckily, the heavy rain took a break and we did not get wet during our hike. Another positive spin on the nasty weather is that it deterred the mosquito attacks that we encountered on the Buck Mountain summit the previous day.
We started out with doing jumping jacks and a bit of trail running to warm up, which was easy to do as the trail was fairly flat in the beginning.
We continued our hike, which was not very scenic until the summit. The view at the top of the mountain made us realize why it is called Sleeping Beauty. The views are as beautiful as the fictional princess. Other than that, the mountain is also said to be shaped like a sleeping woman lying on her side.
